On Sunday night, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, appeared in a rare televised interview with Axios on HBO. As White House adviser, he's got a lot on his plate between trying to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and constantly refiling his security clearance paperwork. All of that, no doubt, eats up most of his schedule, and Kushner looked caught off guard by a few of interviewer Jonathan Swann's questions. Take the accusations that Trump is racist, for instance.
Hiddlescheekbatch: “ Crimson Peak Interview - Tom Hiddleston ” Well they’ll definitely find out what blood is.;).
Swann: Have you ever seen him do or say anything that you would describe as racist or bigoted?
Kushner: The answer is no, absolutely not. You can't not be a racist for 69 years then run for president and be a racist.
Swann asked him specifically about racist actions, and Kushner's response is that Trump lived 69 years without being a racist person. Those 69 years include Trump being sued by the Justice Department for refusing to rent to black people and taking out a full-page newspaper ad demanding that five black teenagers be put to death for a crime they didn't commit, but those actions can't be racist because Trump isn't a racist.
When Swann even pressed him on birtherism, the rumor fueled by Trump that Barack Obama wasn't born in the U.S., Kushner went full automaton, repeating the same response until he could come up with a way out.
Swann: Was birtherism racist?
Kushner: Um. Look, I wasn't really involved with that.
Swann: I know you weren't. Was it racist?
Kushner: Like I said, I wasn't really involved with that.
Swann: I know you weren't. Was it racist?
Kushner: Look, I know who the president is and I have not seen anything in him that is racist.
Swann also asked about the infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting that Kushner attended, and which was allegedly where Russian nationals tried to establish contact to help the Trump presidential campaign. Would he call the FBI if Russians requested a meeting again, Swann asked? 'I don't know,' Kushner said. 'It's hard to do hypotheticals, but the reality is that we were not given anything that was salacious.'
Between 'I don't know' and 'I wasn't really involved with that,' Trump can't be thrilled with Kushner's performance. He reportedly likes it when his surrogates aggressively confront interviewers and refuse to back down, like when Stephen Miller got himself kicked off CNN or when then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh went on his defiant rant in front of the Senate. Kushner's answers to the birtherism questions are about as milquetoast and non-confrontational as it gets. Like Trump's real sons, Kushner is lucky that he can't get fired from the family.

Instead of providing advice on how to answer interview questions, they provided me with some great questions to ask the hiri...more

Could be called, 'how to game an interview'
The advice to be interesting, tell stories and provide opportunities for the interviewer to talk about himself was good. It would have been better if there was some discussion about being sincere and truthful while doing it.
If the purpose of an interview is to assess each other for fit, then putting up a facade of triumphant stories could easily get in the way.

This is a really good book, really a pleasant surprise. He's actually been there performing interviews. I would say that he really has some useful insights. Though a lot of the information is also available elsewhere the way he says it is really good.
